D 6 SUB - Subwoofer
Design
When you buy a D 6 THXTM system comprised of the very compact, yet high- performance D 6LCR and D 6SUR, it’s natural that you’ll have equally high expectations when it comes to the matching subwoofer. The D 6SUB is a very compact subwoofer, sporting a 15-inch driver and powered by a beefy 400 watt amplifier. A 15-inch woofer can be very difficult to control sonically because of the movements of the big diaphragm, which often results in an unwanted boomy bass. By adding a Motional Feedback circuit, however, we get very accurate and dynamic sound.
The cabinets are crafted in MDF (Medium-Density Fiber) board, a heavy, resonance-damping material that prevents sound coloration.
The D 6SUB is designed to match the rest of the D 6 series and is remarkably compact when you consider its specifications—this subwoofer is intended to easily slot into living rooms.
Technology
In order to match the D 6LCR and D 6SUR sonically, we have created a monster subwoofer: The 1-inch thick cabinet is made of very stiff MDF material. Inside, we’ve mounted an extremely powerful 15-inch woofer with Motional Feed Back (MFB), and powered it up with a 400 watt Class D amplifier that delivers a peak power output of no less than 700 watts! The D 6SUB reaches all the way down to 20Hz which could cause problems in some rooms, so we have added a Boundary Gain Compensation filter to fine-tune its response.
